Testing for Genetic Gain If you can use a little help to get ahead of the pack this service may help. The use of a worm egg count as another tool to use in your ranking/indexing and classing procedures can provide you and your clients (in the case of a stud) with the security that you are breeding in a direction that selects for worm resistance. In many breeds this has been proven to be a highly repeatable trait. Supplied in excel format that can easily be loaded into most indexing and classing programs. Sample collection for genetic testing: We supply (free of charge) individual bags that have a panel for writing tag number on in permanent marker. Take individual samples from rectum of animal using gloved finger. (Disposable gloves readily available from your local supermarket). Place sample in bag and ensure tag number is clearly marked on bag. Ideally this is an operation for two or more people one sampling the other clearly writing the tag numbers on the bag!
Identify Ewes in Lamb and Save:The benifits of scanning ewes speaks for itself; identifying ewes that are dry in a mob gives you the option to sell those "unproductive" animals or join them again as well as running them separatley as their feed requirement are much less than the pregnant ewe. Additionally twin bearing ewes can be managed separatley according to their additional nutritional requirments. The benifits go on...including the genetic gain in time if continually selecting for fertility.
